A Royal Experience at Burma Burma

Tasting the Burmese delicacies with a twist of desi

Hi Everyone!
Welcome back to another blog post where I'm going to document my experience at this regal place called 'Burma Burma'
The restaurant is located inside the DLF Cyber Hub area ( Building 8, Tower C ) which is easy to find as they have a very attractive front with reflected Burmese scripts at their opening door.

I was lucky enough to be invited as one of the social media influencers from Delhi to join their exclusive event- The Royal Table. I grabbed in the opportunity to get my hands on to some authentic Burmese food, socialize and get to know other invited influencers too.

When you enter the place you get to see these colorful decorations and lights, a well organised tea room, not to mention a friendly staff that makes you feel welcomed with some in-house flavored water and sunflower seeds to munch on.

The cinnamon and almond flavored mocktail on the left was a pure delight! Me and my friend- Vishal were stunned by the refreshing quality it had with a really strong aftertaste. The Royal Table was a table like no other- they actually put up the best sellers in a personally curated royal menu for us to gobble up.

Dissecting The Royal Menu

Appetizer: We were given an option to chose from two different soups- first one being Samuza Hincho ( Samosa Soup ) and second being Tohu Hincho ( Bean Curd Soup ). As desi as we can get, we opted for the Samosa Soup, with a picture of mini samosas drowning in a plain soup in my mind.

But to my surprise there was one big samosa with a lot of veggies in the soup that was more on the
saltier side- but I loved the blend of flavors, never ever thought I would enjoy something like that. Introducing a soup with samosa in it is a great move to create a hype in Delhi- and trust me, the hype was worth it!

Salad Sampler: It might seem funny but the salad samplers served to us were the best part of the menu. As I've started changing my lifestyle I now enjoy green vegetables and wholesome nutritious salads much more than any full course meal. The salads are unique and visually stunning, we were served three different salads

- Sunflower leaves & crispy wheat flakes salad
- Tea leaf salad ( a bestseller )
- Raw mango salad

Burma is famous for its tea production that goes in making 'laphet' which is a traditional treat unique to Burma. The Tea Leaf Salad was a mixture of fermented tea leaves, fried garlic, nuts, sesame seeds, tomato and lettuce. I had heard that this salad is a special at Burma Burma so I had high expectations, to which it did not meet. The salad was good, but nothing special to tingle my taste buds. What did tingle my taste buds were the other two salads- The Raw Mango Salad which consisted of peeled raw mangoes tossed with brown sugar, lemon juice and chilies- a nice blend of spicy and tangy. The Sunflower Leaves & Crispy Flakes Salad has my heart in it! Everything from nuts, to sunflower leaves, and the moist flakes seasoned to perfection blew me away.

Entrée: For starters we were served three dishes- Tohu Mash With Parantha, Chilly Tangy Chickpea Tohu, and Mushroom Buns. What I adore about this place is that they serve their Burmese delicacies keeping in mind our Indian taste. They had a variety of chutneys to offer along with each meal.

The Tohu Mash with Parantha is one such unique dish I'd want to binge on. The Mushroom Buns tasted as beautiful as they looked- the steamed buns had a chilly buttery base stuffed with caramelized brown onions and garnished with toasted sesame seeds. The Chilly Tangy Chickpea Tohu tasted a lot like Chilly Paneer - but with a tangy flavor straight from Burma. The Chickpea Tohu is high in protein which elevates the nutrition value of this meal up a notch.

Main Course: For Main Course we were offered three dishes again but we asked for two dishes to be served as we were quite full from the amazing salads and starters. We were introduced with Shwedagon Khowsuey & Burmese Fried Rice with Spicy Veg Curry.

I liked the Khowsuey better than the rice & curry for a simple reason that I was trying Khowsuey for the first time and the mix of sauces and raw onion rings were lip-smacking to me. The rice were fresh and flavorsome but the 'spicy' curry did not do justice to its name, in fact it was a little bland for my taste. The main course overall was not an over the top experience as I thought it'd be. They also served us with some more refreshing mocktails made of pomegranate and mint. The drink was a pretty pink color and kept my mood alive the whole evening.

Dessert: We were served a spoonful of a dessert named Coco Pina- which was an absolute bliss. The coconut custard caramelized with pineapples is just the right balance of sweetness- rather a little less sweet so as to savor the real taste of coconut which could easily be overpowered by any sugar syrup. It is an intelligent dessert that focuses on bringing the authenticity of Burma to one table as you finish your dinner.
